Tra il 1197 e il 1209, in un luogo amenissimo e quanto mai salubre, viene fondata la Certosa di San Giacomo. Ben presto il monastero diviene centro di produzione agricola, rinomato per la qualita' dei suoi prodotti, oltre ad essere luogo di ritiro spirituale. Nel 1620 viene elevato al rango di abbazia e nel secolo successivo vede un completo rifacimento che gli dona nuovo splendore. |

Con le leggi del 1808 sulla confisca dei beni ecclesiastici, la Certosa viene trasformata in splendida dimora di campagna. Oggi, un restauro filologicamnete perfetto, ha dato vita a un raffinato albergo dotato di sale congressuali, ideale per eventi speciali e ricevimenti di classe. Una struttura immersa in 42 Ha. di verde nei pressi di Lauro, superbo paese medioevale dove il tempo ha scelto la bellezza dei ritmi tradizionali. |

The Carthusian monastery of S. Giacomo was founded between 1197 and 1209 in a pleasant and healthy area. It soon became a centre of agricultural production renowned for the quality of its products as well a place for spiritual retreat. The monastery still preserves an ancient wine-press and a grindstone for olives while the tradition of the monks continues with the Certosa producing oil and the Fiano and Aglianico for its customers.In 1620 the monastery was raised to the rank of Abbey and the next century witnessed its complete refurbishing. The new facade restored in Baroque style gave the whole complex a new splendour enriched by subsequent annexion of a magnificent Church rich in works of art. |

Today a philological perfect restoration has created an elegant hotel for those who when travelling do not want to forgo the refinement of Pregio dwelling. The Certosa is ideal for conferences, meetings ceremonies and week-ends in close contact with the nature. It is strategically placed just a few hundred metres from the historical centre of Lauro, dominated by the imposing Castle of the Princes Lancellotti, 30 minutes by car from Naples, Avellino, Caserta, Pompei and, therefore, from all the artistic, archaeological and environment treasures that these localities contain. |
