This was the house of the first Marquis of Santillana, D. Iñigo Lopez de Mendoza, born in Carrion de Los Condes in 1398, son of Admiral Don Diego Hurtado de Mendoza and Doña Leonor de la Vega. He married Dña. Catalina de Figueroa and 1430 he visited Las Asturias de Santillana for the first time. Them in 1445, Juan II gave D. Iñigo Lopez the title of Marques de Santillana.The house is splendid gothic building wich dates from the 16th century. The main entrance has a pointed arch wich two doors. |

The iron work on the doors is worth mention aswell as the four windows on the facade, wich are of plateresque origin.Originally the residence of the first Marquis of Santillana, Don Íñigo López de Mendoza. Naturally , the staircase was left untouched during the careful restoration of the building.With the lastest instalations , we have tried to maintain a balance between luxury and comfort , and tradition .There are 15 rooms , each one with its own personality ,based on a French rural style.
