Having had El Castell de Riudabella in the family now for some hundreds of years, the current owner and his wife are dedicated to its preservation and restoration to its former glory. They have restored the original great room and two floors for their own residence, and are working to restore the out buildings and some of the interior courtyards. This is a labor of love and will take years to complete. Ask for a tour of the magnificent hall containing many family portraits and treasures, and the area by the turrets, which is being restored. |

There is also a lovely, tiny chapel, used monthly for Mass in order to keep it as a "holy" space. The apartment, on the west end of the castle, is up three flights of stairs. The wing overlooks the entrance, where in fact there are portholes through which the residents threw hot oil down onto approaching enemies on horseback! The living/dining area with a charming chimney and fireplace is the main focus of the apartment, which is carefully renovated and simply decorated. Wood beamed ceilings are seen throughout. |

There are three bedrooms. Two have twin beds together while the third has a double bed. There is a crib in the largest of the bedrooms. The bathroom is modern with a new hot water system, bathtub with a hand held shower, WC and sink. The kitchen is attractively designed with bricks from the castle and specially designed tiles. There is a stovetop with four burners and a refrigerator. The owners have thoughtfully left some basic supplies. |

The guests have the complete run of the finca. There is a pool surrounded by ancient pillars. In the garden, there is a large barbecue area with a fine table for dining and an outside refrigerator. There are lounge chairs. The views from the pool are beautiful and the serenity of the countryside is totally relaxing. The owner will gladly supply fresh vegetables from the finca in season and is willing in every way to help make your stay enjoyable. If it can be arranged and the owners are not too busy, they are more than happy to help arrange a typical Catalan meal and/or a wine tasting. |
