Take the country road that winds
through the secluded Cothi Valley and you'll come
to the beautiful hamlet of Brechfa set in the
Brechfa Forest. And there you'll find a little
jewel that shines more brightly with each passing
year. Ty^ Mawr is an intimate, cream-washed country
hideaway with everything you'd expect of a place
that dates from the 15th/16th centuries &endash;
thick stone walls, old beams, low ceilings, log
fires and cosy nooks and crannies, all creating a
warm, rustic farmhouse feel. But you sacrifice
nothing in terms of creature comforts. Ty^ Mawr has
remodelled, well-appointed bedrooms that blend old
with new &endash; an appealing mix of simple pine
furnishings, Victorian-style claw-footed baths and
Italian tiled floors.

It's easy to see why Ty^ Mawr's
experienced new owners, Annabel Viney and Steve
Thomas, fell in love with this spot. And they make
sure that the cooking perfectly complements these
bucolic surroundings. Ty^ Mawr's suppliers read
like a 'who's who' taken from the Real Food
manifesto highlighting the importance of fresh,
quality local produce. It's mostly organic too, and
it all contributes to Ty^ Mawr's tasty, wholesome
Welsh cuisine simply prepared from the finest
ingredients. The hotel is restful but not remote.
It's less than half an hour from the M4 motorway
and is perfectly located for touring the coast and
countryside of Carmarthenshire, Cardiganshire and
Pembrokeshire. As a bonus, the magnificent National
Botanic Garden is just over the hill, and fishing,
walking, shooting and mountain biking are all
available locally.
