Many guests make the trip
into the leafy, green heart of Pembrokeshire in
which this hotel stands to enjoy its excellent,
sensibly priced food and traditional hospitality.
Wolfscastles's intimate restaurant has earned a
reputation far and wide for its tempting menus,
which feature both haute cuisine and good home
cooking. Its delicately cooked fresh seasonal
vegetables are quite superb, and fresh, locally
caught fish is one of the specialities. You'll
enjoy good accommodation too in comfortable,
well-appointed rooms &endash; by early 2005 all
bedrooms will have been upgraded to a very high
standard. Wolfscastle, set on its own amongst trees
in a rural landscape is &endash; paradoxically
&endash; one of the best centres from which to
explore the untouched cliffs, bays, coves and
beaches of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park
with its rich birdlife.

Plas Bodegroes has always
enjoyed a reputation as one of the places to eat in
Wales. Over the years, Chris and Gunna Chown have
ensured that it remains at the very top of the
culinary tree. Chris offers cuisine in the modern,
light style of British cooking which is innovative,
exciting and accomplished. The freshest and finest
local ingredients also play their part in Plas
Bodegroes's reputation as a foodies' mecca. But,
while the emphasis here falls understandably on the
exceptionally well-balanced cooking, there are
other reasons why the hotel is a favourite with
discriminating travellers. Firstly, there's the
house itself, a handsome Georgian manor house
standing in peaceful grounds filled with ancient
beechwoods.

Plas Bodegroes's elegant
décor reflects Gunna's Scandinavian
background. Contemporary lighting and artworks give
a sophisticated ambience to the dining room, while
the bedrooms (some with four-posters) are finished
to a high standard with great attention to detail.
The courtyard with garden and pond is a magical
place in which to spend a summer's evening. The
hotel's other great asset is its location, on the
beautiful Llyn Peninsula yet close to the
mountains of Snowdonia. Llyn, an Area of
Outstanding Natural Beauty, has a magnificent
coastline of cliffs, bays and beaches. For
watersports enthusiasts there are two excellent
harbours at Pwllheli and Abersoch. Plas Bodegroes
is closed on Mondays (except Bank Holidays); it is
also closed from early December to the end of
February.
