We have all been reading about the Great British Seaside Revival. The story goes like this. Twenty years ago we deserted our own shores in favour of the sun. Now we're back, disenchanted with the 'fly and flop' mentality and packaged pandemonium. But, of course, we have returned with much higher expectations &endash; which is where Llety Bodfor comes in. Two decades ago, this style of accommodation didn't exist. Style is the key word here, for Llety Bodfor is about as far removed from the traditional, dowdy seaside hotel as you can get. From the outside it seems conventional enough: a tall Victorian building with those characteristic big bay windows. But open the door, and you're catapulted into the 21st century. Llety Bodfor is the creation of Gareth and Ann Hughes Ann is a successful interior designer &endash; and it shows. There's no reception as such, in keeping with Llety Bodfor's 'contemporary townhouse accommodation'. Instead, you're greeted by a huge, open-plan room laid out with the minimum of fuss, funky little bar area, comfy leather sofas, piano and sound system. Neither have Gareth and Ann been parsimonious with the space in the bedrooms. They too are mostly huge and designed in the same cool, bright, modern idiom. And the 'wow' factor also extends to the views across Cardigan Bay. Since Aberdyfi is a stylish little jewel too, it's all a perfect match. Although accommodation is B&B only, ever-flexible, ever-helpful Ann and Gareth will make all the necessary arrangements for guests to dine locally.
