Norma and Stephen Bond have achieved wonders at
The Great House. When they took it over it was a
derelict shell. Now it is one of South Wales's
leading hotels and restaurants. The restoration of
the historic Grade II listed building, which dates
from the 1550s, has been completed with great
sympathy. Many original and period features
contribute to The Great House's mature, dignified
character &endash; the flagstone floors, oak beams,
inglenook fireplaces (one with the single largest
unbroken span of stone in Wales), mullioned
windows, stone archways and dovecote in the south
wall. Special emphasis is placed on the food at The
Great House. Its well-known restaurant serves
classical cuisine based on the freshest quality
produce, complemented by an interesting wine
list.

Much attention has also been devoted to the
bedrooms, which are decorated in a soothing,
tasteful style. Some are within the main house
while others have a courtyard location. Guest
facilities include 'The Well' Health Suite with
multi-gym, sauna and Jacuzzi. The immaculate,
comfortable and welcoming Great House stands in the
heart of the pretty conservation village of
Laleston. Located midway between Cardiff and
Swansea close to excellent walking country and a
choice of golf courses (including Royal Porthcawl,
Southerndown and Pyle and Kenfig), it is an ideal
base from which to explore all of South Wales.
